For Immediate Release February 24, 2012 Contact:  Chris Allgood Chief of Police Caldwell Police Department (208) 455- 4512 callgood@ci.caldwell.id.us or Debbie Dujanovic Bertram FBI Salt Lake City Division |(801) 579-4735 Deborah.bertram@ic.fbi.gov Caldwell Police, FBI confirm missing mom and three children have crossed into Mexico            Detectives with the Caldwell Police Department and special agents of the FBI Salt Lake City Division have developed new information today in the disappearance of three Idaho children, who were taken last week by their non custodial mother.  Investigative leads confirm all four crossed into Mexico as early as Sunday evening.  A witness says the three children appeared to be unharmed and with their mother.   They drove across the border in a grey, 4-door, Pontiac 6000 (Nevada license plate number 389XPR).  This is the same vehicle they left Idaho in.   Law enforcement continues to search for all four, however due to this new information the police department will request the Amber Alerts in Idaho and Nevada be cancelled.             The three children, who were living in foster care in Caldwell, Idaho, were taken by their non custodial mother, 35-year old Bertha Sabala Guerrero, over the weekend.  Media and the public in several states were alerted to the disappearance of the children, 5-year-old Esmerelda Guerrero-Lopez (female), 7-year-old Mirella Guerrero-Lopez (female), and 9-year-old Ubaldo Guerrero-Lopez Jr. (male).  The investigation shows Guerrero drove through Nevada and Arizona to cross into Mexico.    It is important to note, detectives with the Caldwell Police Department and FBI special agents continue to investigate this case.  A state arrest warrant was issued in Idaho for Guerrero that allows for nationwide extradition.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Caldwell Police Department  in Idaho at (208) 454-7531.

CXL GA AMBER Alert (Levi's Call) update for Amari and Jalen Mattison

The State of Georgia canceled the Amber Alert Wednesday afternoon (02-22) after the children were located safe. No further information is available at this time.

CXL TN AMBER Alert:Knasel Children,

Per NCMEC : Lovell and Summer Knasel missing from Spencer, TN, has been recovered.

OH AMBER Alert cxld.Chaniya Wynn located deceased.

Yesterday I posted a response to an AMBER Alert from Ohio that was not correct.

Vernacular between agencies led to this posting and for that I apologize.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children uses the word recovered when it is reporting a successful location of a missing child that is not located deceased.

At 3:12AM on Sunday Feb 19 I received the following from the state of OH:

“THE CHILD HAS BEEN RECOVERED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

ALL PARTIES HAVE BEEN LOCATED.  NO FURTHER INFORMATION AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.”

At 3:55 P.M. I received the following from NCMEC:

"Chaniya Wynn missing from Cleveland, OH, has been restricted. Please discontinue dissemination of this poster.
Please remove and discard any posters on this case that you have placed in public view.", almost 13 hours after the state agency notification.

This message indicates that for whatever reason, the case has been removed from NCIC and is in  stage of resolution either good or bad. I received it 

It was my interpretation along with one news source that this was indicating the victim had been rescued and was alive. Sadly this was not the case.

I do not follow news feeds to verify reports and have a commitment that I will only follow verified law enforcement sources. In doing such this time I made a serious error in my reporting the first in the years I have reported AMBER Alerts.

The facts are that the victim, the victims’ mother and the suspect were all located deceased, the suspect by his own hand.

I received a message from a colleague at Child Quest International asking me about my posting. I appreciate CQI's bringing this error to my attention and thank them.
