MISSING ENDANGERED CHILDREN

LCPD CASE # 2011- 17814             Detective Sebero Torres

2 Children Taken by Father

Two children who are believed to be in the custody of their biological father and may already be in Mexico.

Las Cruces Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Alvaro De Leon Sr. who was last seen Monday, Aug. 22, when he picked up his six-year-old son from school. De Leon’s children, 6-year-old Alvaro Jr. and 2-year-old Alessandra, are believed to be with their father and may possibly be headed to Coahuila, Mexico.

Relatives of De Leon reported seeing Alvaro Sr. and the two children in Juarez, Mexico, on Monday evening.

A parental custody arrangement had been agreed upon requiring De Leon’s children to stay within Dona Ana County. De Leon reportedly picked up his children from their mother Sunday morning and was to return them on Tuesday afternoon. De Leon picked up Alvaro Jr. from school on Monday afternoon and the three have not been seen in Las Cruces since then.

De Leon does not have his own vehicle but was driven by someone else to Booker T. Washington elementary school in Las Cruces on Monday afternoon where he picked up his son. The vehicle was a white car but no other information is known about the vehicle or who was driving it.

Alvaro De Leon Sr. is Hispanic and described as being 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds. He has short black hair with brown eyes. He has health issues that may contribute to his inability to care for the children.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Alvaro De Leon Sr. or his two children is asked to immediately call 911 or their local law enforcement agency. Las Cruces Police are attempting to locate a photo of Alvaro De Leon and will release it when one becomes available.
